Screenshots of Latest Snow Leopard Build Released

A host of screenshots have recently emerged depicting a few minor interface changes and feature enhancements of the latest build of Apple’s much anticipated Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard.

A brief mention of Snow Leopard at WWDC 2008 by Steve Jobs gave the public a mere glimpse into what can be expected, yet developers had been privy to more detailed information. World of Apple has gathered a gallery of screenshots showing the latest Snow Leopard build (10a261), that has been sanctioned as a primarily “under the hood” upgrade, improving performance and reducing the operating systems overall footprint. Below are a few of the screenshots that have been released.

System Preferences pane showing a few minor user interface changes.

An upgraded Keboard Shortcuts pane resembling the Finder allows for greater ease of use.

With Stacks you can now navigate the folder structure.

“Application footprints in Snow Leopard are significantly reduced. Almost all of the applications have been rebuilt in Cocoa and 64 bit.”

A new “Put Back” feature allows you to easily restore deleted items.

World of Apple notes that based on the current progress of the latest build they do not expect Snow Leopard to ship during the first quarter of 2009.

Garmin Nuvifone UI: Looks Like iPhone/Android Spawn

Garmin has released some official screenshots from their upcoming Nuvifone. The interface (not surprisingly) closely resembles that of Apple’s iPhone mashed up with Google’s Android, only this device will have real GPS.

Garmin is expected to give an official first look at the Nuvifone during CES, the Consumer Electronics Show in early January in Las Vegas. As Electronista points out, the Nuvifone will sport a 3.5″ display just like the iPhone. Among others, Palm is also expected to unveil some radically redesigned hardware and software offerings at the tradeshow.

Mobile Optimized Websites, More Harm Than Good? 7 Sites Compared

Many websites automatically redirect iPhones to mobile versions of their sites. These mobile sites often deliver limited content, wasted space, and eliminate zooming. Below are mobile versions and the real version as seen on the iPhone.

Amazon

As you can see, a lot of content has been removed for Amazon’s mobile site, and the navigation has been tremendously cut down. Instead of being able to browse through Amazon’s offerings, the user is taken to a landing page focused on a few book covers instead.

ESPN

While most users may appreciate one headline instead of the option to read many, ESPN automatically directs you to the mobile site instead of the classic version.

eBay

The mobile site takes away categories completely.

CNN

All of the world’s headlines have managed to be shrunk into four headlines.

Screenshots: iPhone OS 2.2 Adds App Store Sorting

Fresh off the heels of rumors that iPhone OS 2.2 will be landing within ten days, Boy Genius Report posts a few screen shots of Apple’s unreleased iPhone OS 2.2 Firmware. The new images show new App Store “sorting” functionality not present in any iPhone Firmware build to date.

…you can sort the categories themselves by “Top Paid”, “Top Free” and “Release Date”. In addition to that, each category gets a cute little icon instead of just text-based lists, and you can finally browse through all the application screen shots, BGR explains.

What this means is that instead of looking at just text-based lists, you can now browse through the applications screenshots, just like in iTunes. As previously mentioned, rumors that came in today point to November 21st as a release date for iPhone OS 2.2, though it is still unconfirmed.
