But one thing’s for certain, the new functionality in the iPhone 3G (GPS, 3G) simply demolishes its predecessor. However, sluggish App Store performance, consistently crashing apps, sluggish interface issues, strange bugs, and major launch day activation problems have made this iPhone 3G a rather bittersweet device.

If you’ve been (lucky?) enough to get your hands on an iPhone 3G in the last two weeks, how do you feel? Is it better? Or do you miss the original?

Those in the back of the line outside of an Optus branch in Sydney are being told that they may unfortunately be stuck with the femme version, if they choose to take one at all.

“Given the store had 500 units to begin with, and close to 200 up its sleeve, there is a very clear preference for black over white. Even at a roughly even distribution of 8GB and each of the two 16GB varieties it is sounding like the white is turning out to be very unpopular.”

This would be a rather undesirable situation to be stuck in. I for one am not a big fan of the white model 16GB and would not be happy to have to choose between that or nothing.

As numerous recent reports have speculated about the added features of the 3G iPhone, MacScoop is reporting some rather disappointing news. They site that “Sources who can be trusted told MacScoop that the next iPhone will of course have 3G connectivity, but not much more, as it will lack built-in global positioning system (GPS) chip and include the same old 2Mpixel digital camera.”

If these details hold any truth to them, we will unfortunately not be receiving the two most requested feature updates. Unless a highly secretive higher-end model is looming on the horizon, iPhone customers and enthusiasts will need to continue to wait.

Additionally, “Other sources told MacScoop that we shouldn’t expect miracles in terms of battery-life as 3G chips are still way more power-consuming than those supporting only EDGE. That would either mean that the forthcoming iPhone has become a bit thicker than the current version so as to include a physically bigger battery or that we shouldn’t expect significant improvements in that area.”

Yet a GPS feature may not be completely abandoned, as Apple could provide some support for external GPS modules through recent iPhone 2.0 software seeds that have been rumored to be sent to some developers.

Let’s all hope and cross our fingers that these findings wont be indicative of what’s in store for us come June 9. If you have a minute please participate in the poll.

Apple’s Mac OS X is a Unix-based operating system built on technology developed at NeXT (Steve Jobs’ side-project) from the second half of the 1980s until early 1997, when Apple purchased the company.

Mac OS X (currently Leopard) is far and away the best operating system I have ever used. Without getting too technical… Leopard is the fastest, most reliable, stable and powerful Operating System available today.

Apple releases upgrades, enhancements and new features to its Operating Systems in the form of scheduled updates and new version releases. All OS X version releases have been named after big cats, which you can see in the table below. And usually OS releases are approximately one calendar year away from each other.

Leopard was supposed to be unveiled in June 2007. However, as development rapidly progressed on the iPhone, Apple shifted focus solely onto the iPhone to prepare for the iPhone’s June launch. Apple moved engineers and developers over from Leopard specific teams and groups and urged everyone to focus ONLY on iPhone development. This caused the Leopard release to be delayed and released the following October of 2007.

With WWDC approaching in about 10 days, we are only around 4 or 5 months away from a new Apple OS X version release. We are over the half-way, (first half of the new release year, 6 month period) which makes the new Apple OS release countdown inevitable.

I’m getting all tingly inside just thinking about it.

150 days and counting !

(Given that Lion 10.6 is released in late October)
