Screenshots of Latest Snow Leopard Build Released

A host of screenshots have recently emerged depicting a few minor interface changes and feature enhancements of the latest build of Apple’s much anticipated Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard.

A brief mention of Snow Leopard at WWDC 2008 by Steve Jobs gave the public a mere glimpse into what can be expected, yet developers had been privy to more detailed information. World of Apple has gathered a gallery of screenshots showing the latest Snow Leopard build (10a261), that has been sanctioned as a primarily “under the hood” upgrade, improving performance and reducing the operating systems overall footprint. Below are a few of the screenshots that have been released.

System Preferences pane showing a few minor user interface changes.

An upgraded Keboard Shortcuts pane resembling the Finder allows for greater ease of use.

With Stacks you can now navigate the folder structure.

“Application footprints in Snow Leopard are significantly reduced. Almost all of the applications have been rebuilt in Cocoa and 64 bit.”

A new “Put Back” feature allows you to easily restore deleted items.

World of Apple notes that based on the current progress of the latest build they do not expect Snow Leopard to ship during the first quarter of 2009.

Booth Bunnies Make the Macworld Go Round (Photos)

After hours of perusing the seemingly endless maze of vendors hawking their wares to passers-by, we began to take notice of a trend among the exhibits. No, not cases or hip side bags, although they don’t seem to be in short supply, this time we are thinking something a bit different.

It is a common perception that Macworld can be rather gender-biased event as upon first glance you may notice more individuals possessing a Y chromosome. Ahh, but this myth has now been debunked as we present you with the Macworld 2009 booth bunnies. What’s a booth bunny? In keeping with many basic principles of sales 101, the old adage of sex sells, remains as present as ever. Lets have a look at this year’s contenders.

Hands On: Axiotron 15″ Modbook Pro (Photos)

Axiotron is a company that takes existing Apple notebooks and turns them into fully functional tablets called Modbooks. Lately they unveiled a brand new 15″ Modbook which we were been able to get hands on with moments ago.

The new 15″ Modbook Pro is set atop an existing Macbook Pro. Prior to this Modbook Pro, Axiotron only offered standard Macbook configurations so this new Pro model is definitely a step up. If you send them your existing Macbook Pro to get modded, you’ll be looking at a $3,049 pricetag. If you opt for a brand new setup directly from Axiotron you’re looking at a more hefty $4,999 pricetag.

The Modbook Pro is much more seamless than the regular Modbooks. The screen lies flush with the surrounding bezel as apposed to bulging up on the outside.

The images above are of a prototype in a clear plastic case. Axiotron only had one model out of the case and we were able to get a few minutes to privately talk about the device and see how it looked first hand. In our time at Axiotron’s booth, it was apparent that by taking Wacom tablet technology, they were able to bring some really interesting input concepts to market.

Axiotron Modbooks in general are much more widely accepted than many other third party manufacturers. Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak fully endorses and supports Axiotron and he was at their Macworld booth today, and should be nearly everyday for the rest of the week.

We have arrived in San Francisco, getting ready and gearing up for the week ahead. Everyone seems full of excitement and we’ve heard numerous rumors surrounding tomorrow’s keynote.

The scene seems very excited and we expect Phil Schiller to deliver a solid keynote. Meanwhile, here is a first batch of photos as we get settled into our surroundings.

Macworld Photos, Spyshots and Covered Banners Stir Excitement

Leading up to this year’s Macworld, Apple Insider has gotten its hands on a few photos of the event. While they don’t reveal much, they stir excitement leading up to the even none-the-less.

There’s usually a few banners that Apple displays which remain completely covered up with white tarps prior to the event. During the keynote, when CEO Steve Jobs has historically unveiled new products, Apple drops the covering tarps and reveals the banners. This year, it will be Phil Schiller addressing the crowd at Macworld, not Steve Jobs. But banners concealing new products have still been raised.

Both photos reveal very little. Reports of a disappointing Macworld led many to believe nothing new would be announced this year. Still, the covered banners stir the notion that something will most likely be unveiled.

“We snapped a photo of the rehearsal live feed through the open door of Mira’s mobile unit. The individual on stage wasn’t Schiller, and actually looked more like Al Gore or Intel chief Paul Otellini. Probably just a random tech guy…” AI explains.

iShow Micro Projector Concept Leaves Me Wanting More

The iShow concept is a portable home cinema device designed to work with Apple’s iPods, iPhones and Notebooks that packs an LED pico projector within a sleek yo-yo-esque casing.

Created by designer Moti Barzilay, the round design opens to reveal the micro projector which makes use of LED light to beam images or video up to 60″ onto your wall. The device utilizes Apple’s video input socket to easily connect to any MacBook, as well as harboring a composite video input to link directly to iPods and iPhones. While the images below are merely concepts, I must say that I would gladly see this come into existence.

Mystery Photos Reveal iPhone 3G Diagnostic Screen

A mysterious diagnostic screen has apparently been discovered on the iPhone 3G as reported by a poster on the Hakint0sh forums. While it it still unknown what exactly is going on here, after taking it to an Apple store, the device was successfully activated.

The forum poster notes that:

“The guy at the counter couldn’t figure out how to do anything with it but he did try and activate it and apparently it worked. He told me that it did activate, and we have that sim card back in my wife’s phone. Well needless to say we didn’t take it. We spent an hour and a half in the store trying to figure it out and he was on the phone with Apple. Finally we decided that we didn’t want it, there were some other things that were wrong with it too.”

The images below reveal what the screen is showing.

This screen is displaying “iPhone OS” with a version number. It is also showing “Drag to Unlock” and “Shut Down.”

Here we see a lonely Gear icon.

This last screen is showing three buttons, “Start Burning,” “Restart Test Environment,” and “Quit.”

Apple has opened its new flagship store in Beijing, China in the Sanlitun Entertainment District.

Prior to officially opening the doors to their new Beijing Store, Apple held a sneak peak to let customers come get a first look. At this point, the doors are open and the store is officially doing business.

This Morning’s iPhone 3G Launch Line Was Our Family Away from Home.

We joined our wonderful 3G Launch Line at around 3:30am this morning. Luckily, we were in a location that had a fairly large Apple Store right around the corner, so we had two lines within a stone’s throw from each other. Our line was definitely the best! We were hanging out, taking pictures, talking about our shiny toys, and in the process we managed to snap up quite a bit of good shots!

By the way: We picked up 4 iPhones, two white 16GB’s and two black 16GB’s. Only one of them has been successfully (and accidentally) activated by leaving it plugged in for a long, long time.

Updates: All 4 iPhones are working great and have been synced and updated. Mobile Me, on the other hand, that’s a different story. Contrary to reports, Mobile Me is still very, very unstable.
