Apple may be prepping resellers for coming product updates as they have been quietly given subtle hints to stop orders of Mac-minis, MacBook Pros, iPods and Cinema Displays, reports MacRumors.

This may be coming in connection with the rumored Apple event set for September 9th, that may bring us more than just new iPods. Details remain unclear as this may just mean that certain retailers have been experiencing limited supply shortages, Best Buy being a perfect example as they had run short on MacBooks in late July.

While there is no doubt that Apple does have a sundry of products in need of a refresh, it may simply not be feasible to upgrade so many at the same time. We are all too aware of Apple’s recent multitasking difficulties, and would not be inclined to see something similar happen.

At this point, it would seem that if a September event is in the works, I would not expect to see much more than iPod updates, as events such as these have historically been used as a launching pad for new iPods. With all of the iPod rumors currently making rounds, the timing may indeed be more than mere coincidence.

Following rumors that Apple will be releasing Mac OS X 10.6 later this year, recent reports have trickled in stating that an early build of OS X 10.6 will be seeded to developers next week at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference.

Although Leopard was a smash success, hype has already begun for Apple’s next major operating system release. TUAW believes that Mac OS X 10.6 will ship in January 2009, roughly 15 months after Leopard’s release in October 2007. In the past, Steve jobs has commented about how pleased he is with Apple’s long standing ability to stay on a 12-18 month releasing schedule for its major operating systems.

Current Mac users are urged to be using Leopard build 10.5.3, which is the latest stable and secure update issued by Apple. Recent reports by our neighbors Apple Insider claim that Apple is set to serve up the first builds of Mac OS X 10.5.4.

We’ve recently written a post (in good humor) about how it was time to get excited for OS X 10.6. Guess we weren’t too far from the truth.

Apple’s Mac OS X is a Unix-based operating system built on technology developed at NeXT (Steve Jobs’ side-project) from the second half of the 1980s until early 1997, when Apple purchased the company.

Mac OS X (currently Leopard) is far and away the best operating system I have ever used. Without getting too technical… Leopard is the fastest, most reliable, stable and powerful Operating System available today.

Apple releases upgrades, enhancements and new features to its Operating Systems in the form of scheduled updates and new version releases. All OS X version releases have been named after big cats, which you can see in the table below. And usually OS releases are approximately one calendar year away from each other.

Leopard was supposed to be unveiled in June 2007. However, as development rapidly progressed on the iPhone, Apple shifted focus solely onto the iPhone to prepare for the iPhone’s June launch. Apple moved engineers and developers over from Leopard specific teams and groups and urged everyone to focus ONLY on iPhone development. This caused the Leopard release to be delayed and released the following October of 2007.

With WWDC approaching in about 10 days, we are only around 4 or 5 months away from a new Apple OS X version release. We are over the half-way, (first half of the new release year, 6 month period) which makes the new Apple OS release countdown inevitable.

I’m getting all tingly inside just thinking about it.

150 days and counting !

(Given that Lion 10.6 is released in late October)
