@Gary: Agreed. I use a Garmin Nuvi and I love it. Dave has one too. They're really great. Aside from hardware limitations there should be nothing holding back GPS from being on the iPhone, even if the user has to turn his phone into "Driving Mode," it should be available.

There were old murmurings of various GPS navigation companies porting their software over to the iPhone, but that never materialized. Garmin actually released a Nuvifone.

You can buy standalone navigators for under $150 now, what the hell could be so complicated that a company like Apple couldn't get it happening on the iPhone, there must be commercial reasons that they haven't done so ... how tedious it is to wait for this feature, surely they could just make us pay $14.99 for a bloody system than holding out ...

Thats ok. xGPS on Jailbroken phones will probably be out with Voice turn-by-turn prompts by the time you read this for Free.

Ties in with google maps and you can pre-download blocks of google maps so you can run your iPhone GPS in offline mode with no mobile radio signal.

Turn by turn GPS is available now on the iPhone. I bought G-Map from the App store. It does a good job with 3-D maps. It only lacks voice which is banned by Apple at this time.
