Apple has released an iPhone firmware update bringing the current version to 2.2.1. The update is available by connecting your iPhone to iTunes.
It should be noted that this is not a major (dot) upgrade as “3.0″ will be. This update merely focuses on bug fixes and stability improvements for iPhone owners. While there are notably some features still missing from Apple’s iPhone OS, like MMS, copy-and-paste and push notifications, they should not be expected in this update.
iPhone 2.2.1 Software Update
This update contains bug fixes and improvements, including the following:
• Improved general stability of Safari
• Fixed issue where some images saved from Mail do not display correctly in the Camera Roll
Products compatible with this software update:
• iPhone
• iPhone 3G
Earlier this month, we reported about some news regarding future iPhone firmware 3.0 alongside the speculation of multi-core iPhones. While it’s still relatively unknown, some believe the next iPhone version may see a dramatic increase in performance.
Interestingly, we’ve heard some whispers about Bluetooth syncing coming in 2.3. It was rumored that some interface enhancements and certain little elements were added to 2.2.1, like deleting all emails at once, and some new email options for corporate users. We’re downloading the update now and will look for any new offerings.

Who cares. Where is flash player? This is already the best phone on the market! Only flash will make it better!

@Nick: Really? You want Flash player that bad? What do you NEED to run so bad with Flash on the iPhone?

You forgot one product that it is available for. The 2.2.1 update is also available for the iPod touch 2nd and 1st generations. I know that isn’t exactly iPhone, but just letting you know.

I also agree with Nick about the flash player upgrade. There are so many websites that i vist using my safari on my iphone that has videos that i want to watch but the flash player is not updated to view them. I’ve tried to update the flash player directly on the iphone by going to flash website, but it wont allow me to do so… Please update the flash player in safari in future iphone firmware updates. Thanks
