The Next iPhone: 60GB, Physical Keyboard and a D-Pad (Concept)

There is a large amount of speculation and heated debate over what Apple will do with diversifying its iPhone family. While we know new models are needed, this sector of Apple’s business is arguably the most important, thus making every decision incredibly crucial.

Gizmodo has put together some concept art for a product they call the iPhone Pro. They expanded on an original idea labeled the iPhone Elite by Mat Brady. Both designs shed some interesting light on the possible future of Apple’s iPhone lineup.

A bigger screen, physical keyboard, more storage and a directional pad could intensely change the way people view the iPhone. As a gaming device, it could genuinely compete with things like the Sony PSP and Nintendo DS. With the addition of a physical keyboard, users on the fence due to the virtual keyboard would feel a needed sense of comfort.

Rumors about an iPhone nano have been pouring in during the weeks leading up to Macworld. We have our own opinions about the alleged “iPhone nano,” and needless to say, we’d like to see the iPhone family grow in the direction of this concept, not backwards. By introducing new models with more features, increased storage and more powerful processors, current models would be made cheaper. With a firm belief on giving consumers as much as possible, we believe this is how Apple should be diversifying the iPhone family.

Steve Jobs’ e-mail address typed on the iPhone Mail application is wrong. I think the correct one is sjobs@APPLE.com! ;)
BTW, great images - it would be awesome to see such gadget available!

How do we “know new models are needed”, again?

MTM… Simple. Diversification and market share.

Even though this concept is grand, it doesn’t touch upon how thick this device would be. My guess is that it would be a considerable amount thicker than the bottom image.

first off, the only folks that believe that there needs to be new models (be it a nano or a pro) are the fanboys that wanna gripe cause the phone doesn’t do exactly what they want and how they want.

I think both ideas blow. a nano would be too small and this Pro with a slide out keyboard is just asking for 20 more lawsuits by the folks that applied for the patent on that idea 100 years ago.

I haven’t really seen an iPhone concept that has a camera on the FRONT so as to accomodate Mobile iChat. We may be a ways away from that, but I KNOW you all are thinking it.
