Some features and new functionality that can be found in the update include Google Street View, public transit and walking directions, Emoji icons and more.
• Google Street View* (isn’t available in all areas, doesn’t work with iPod touch)
• Public transit and walking directions
• Display address of dropped pins
• Share location via email
• Decrease in call setup failures and dropped calls
Enhancements to Mail
• Resolved isolated issues with scheduled fetching of email
• Improved formatting of wide HTML email
• Podcasts are now available for download in iTunes application (over Wi-Fi and cellular network)
• Improved stability and performance of Safari
• Improved sound quality of Visual Voicemail messages
• Pressing Home button from any Home screen displays the first Home

The update comes right on time and was anticipated. Additionally, the update is said to fix an iPhone security exploit recently detailed. The date that we had previously heard for the release was correct.

In a nutshell… It’s faster, snappier, responds better. The voice quality for voicemail is definitely better and Safari doesn’t crash everytime I launch it, which is a huge plus. I won’t wine about the missing features cause these updates are pretty rocking as it is. This one is definitely worth the time.

Landscape emails?
How do I get that working then?

I’m having issues also. I hope I figure this out soon. Apple should have a video demo.

Landscape email isn’t working for a lot of people. You’re not the only one.

iPod touch 2.2 is the same just has no Google Maps. you can get it through iTunes. Maybe you should put this in an update in the post?

Where did the poster of this blog get landscape email from? I have not seen it mentioned anywhere but in the title for this blog. Boy do I wish it were true, but I believe this title is wrong… but I hope to be proven wrong. My phone does not do landscape email, nor does a friends of mine who also just updated.

Good catch Nacho, the Apple notes said “Improved formatting of wide HTML email” — must have simply processed it wrong. I knew I got too excited there for a second. Fixed the title
— Thanx again.

Boy I wish you were right! Some day they will give us landscape email!
StreetView is sweet! Nice cookie to hole me over until Landscape email arives.

Additionally, the HTML improvements are referring to the displaying of long small text which often happens in receiving email. The improvements/fixes are supposed to help render that text.

Yeah, landscape emails… copy/paste… mms ?!?!?! WTF APPLE ?!?!?!?! I WILL COMPLAIN, unlike the rest of you.
