Apple has unveiled a new section of their website called “iPhone Your life.” With the new page, Apple is attempting to help organize the sea of applications that have flooded the App Store.
This is a welcome addition, especially since it’s directly from Apple. Nobody has a better directory as to what applications are in the app store than Apple themselves. The web-page is broken into sections such as Around Town, World Travel, At home, Getting Things Done, Fun and Games as well as App of the Week, Top Apps, and Staff Picks.

You can explore each individual category and the applications that Apple “recommends” for each purpose. Just like the App Store itself, Apple picks and chooses which applications are showcased in iPhone Your Life. Surely, any developer would benefit from the additional exposure, and endorsement by Apple.
A nice addition that could turn the page into much more than a highly organized recommendation list, could be to poll users and allow them to vote on which applications are the most useful in each category. Apple could break it down even further, by allowing individuals to quickly decide what’s of interest based on certain variables such as pricing.

Look, I get it. They are trying to help… but all I see are bigger spotlighted apps, nothing that i haven’t necessarily heard of before. i need a tool that will show me apps i would NOT have found otherwise.

I think something where we could like find an app based on our personal specifications and what we need. I hate looking for applications like it’s currently setup.

Hi Aviv, Thanks for the article. As an employee at WHERE, one of the apps picked as “Staff Picks: City apps” in the Around Town section of iPhone your Life, I can agree with you, we love the additional exposure, and endorsement by Apple
