Swedish sources reveal information regarding MMS functionality that is currently missing from the iPhone. The country’s cell carrier Telia Sonera is said to be bringing the feature to Swedish iPhone users.

In a post on swedish website MacWorld, Mikael Markander explains that the site can confirm Swedish iPhones will soon be getting MMS functionality, even though iPhone users in America are still lacking the feature. TeliaSonera is currently the cell carrier offering Apple’s iPhone 3G in Sweden, and Markander claims he has confirmed with them that the functionality is indeed coming.
According to Bengt Olsson, Corporate Communications for TeliaSonera’s content, will provide multimedia funcitonality for the iPhone within two months. This will be launching a program that facilitates logging on the wireless networks (WLAN).
Interestingly, SwirlyMMS is an $8 application that has been developed by SwirlySpace AB, a privately held unlisted company based in Gothenburg, Sweden. According to SwirlySpace, “SwirlyMMS is the only native MMS application for the iPhone and is the de-facto standard for sending and receiving MMS on the iPhone to and from any cell phone. SwirlyMMS has been downloaded more than 1 million times from users spread all over the world!” Could TeliaSonera have somehow crossed paths with SwirlySpace in bringing a native MMS solution to Swedish iPhones? Probably not, but we’re still anxious to see what solution is offered by the cell carrier.
There is no date confirmed yet, however the addition of MMS to any iPhone through any cell carrier around the globe is a big deal. Alongside copy-and-paste, sending pictures from the iPhone has been a heavily demanded feature.

I can’t even begin to tell you how much I want MMS. It is a.) ridiculous that it is not already supported and b.) irritating to have to check it online seeing as though there is no copy and paste. GET WITH IT!!

Honestly, if this comes true before AT&T brings it to us here in the US I am going to lose it.
