Right in time for the December holiday season, Chunghwa Telecom has announced that they have won the exclusive rights to begin selling the iPhone in Taiwan.
Chunghwa Telecom is Taiwan’s largest telecom provider by revenue. It owns 300 sales outlets across the island, and its 37.5% owned Senao International Co, has 200 outlets, according to the newspaper.
CNN: The company “has signed a contract with Apple, and will provide third- generation iPhone services in Taiwan before the end of the year,” Chunghwa Telecom said in a brief e-mailed statement, without giving any further specifics.
The Chinese-language Economic Daily News reported Saturday Apple granted Chunghwa Telecom the exclusive right to sell iPhones because of its large sales channel.
Additionally, Apple Insider points out that Movistar began selling the iPhone 3G in Venezuela on Saturday. As always, check out our iPhone Carrier Worldmap for details regarding the iPhone’s global expansion efforts.
