Apple has launched the Apple Developer Forums Beta, where for the first time, iPhone developers can openly discuss development methods and techniques. The forums are open and available to developers in the iPhone Developer Standard Program, Enterprise Program, and University Program.

Since launching the iPhone SDK, Apple was under tremendous heat by the development community for its long-withstanding NDA. “Under the NDA developers haven’t been able to openly discuss or write books/blog posts on the iPhone SDK and development practices. Because Apple had kept this NDA in place, they were pretty much sewing developer’s lips shut, and telling them they can’t talk about anything. Some sly developers were paying each other small amounts of money so they could call each other sub-contractors, and discuss development,” MacBlogz previously explained.
We are pleased to announce the Apple Developer Forums—a new benefit for developers in the iPhone Developer Standard Program, Enterprise Program, and University Program.
Currently in beta, the Apple Developer Forums provide a collaborative environment to post iPhone development topics and questions for an open discussion with other iPhone developers and Apple engineers.
Having finally dropped the NDA and its developer-shackling contract, Apple has made a giant leap forward by allowing the community to interact and exchange ideas in a safe, secure environment. If you don’t have an ADC account, you can choose your program and get started here. The Apple Developer Forums Beta can be found here.

This has been a long time coming. I am SOOO sick of searching for answers online, to no avail. I don’t know about many of you… But this is a HUGE sigh of relief for me. HUGE.

Just a note, this is NOT for all iPhone developers. You need to have paid Apple at least $99 before you can join these forums.

Thx Dave,
Just realized that I left out the pricing in the post.

They’re smart for calling this a beta. I’ve been running into bugs and it’s taking a long time for my page loads. Probably getting slammed though.

I wonder if Apple’s going to introduce a human, or moderated description of App Store Approvals. These forums are step #1, then introducing some OFFICIAL documentation saying what will and won’t work in your application is a MAJOR step #2. That way, you can develop, share, interact, exchange and follow Apple’s approval documentation the whole time. Please Apple. Please.

Finally !!! As apposed to all the hordes of people crying for matte screens and shit, you have a real concern.

That’s like asking Howard Stern to stop swearing at this point. They OWN the App Store, they can do whatever they want. And will continue to. It’s Apple… people…. Apple.

this is a great resource for development stuff–but what’s even more important than creating your app is marketing it properly. be sure to use facebook and twitter to market your app, press releases, whatever you can–marketing is key! -james
