Similar to Google, Apple has gone public in their stance on gay marriage and are now putting their money where their mouth is.

Apple has today announced that they will be making a donation to the tune of $100,000 on the Proposition 8 campaign, an opposition to the ban on gay marriage in the state of California. Citizens will have the opportunity to vote on the measure come November 4.
In a statement posted in the Hot News section of Apple’s Website, the company noted that, “Apple was among the first California companies to offer equal rights and benefits to our employees’ same-sex partners, and we strongly believe that a person’s fundamental rights–including the right to marry–should not be affected by their sexual orientation. Apple views this as a civil rights issue, rather than just a political issue, and is therefore speaking out publicly against Proposition 8.”
While your personal views on the matter may differ, this is no doubt a bold statement made on behalf of the Cupertino-based company and shows that large corporations can voice a stance on socio-political issues. Way to go Apple.

Not surprising. Not surprising in the slightest. The only thing that surprises me is the fact that they spoke up at all.

I’d rather not hear about issues like this. I understand the importance, but.. ya know, it’s majorly off-topic.

Seeing as how Apple donated over 1 million to obama and a quarter million to Mccain, and we still heard about that, this isn’t so off topic. It’s the politics of a company we follow. Get used to it.

As long as we can keep the comments humane then everything will be fine. When political threads get blown out into flame threads, that’s when they ruin it.

Agreed Mike, after debating whether to put this up or not, it made the cut based on a few factors. 1) This doesn’t play into anything directly involving McCain or Obama — 2) Apple’s company politics are just as important to some people as product announcements, leaks, or other information — 3) There are people out there who demand the right to know what Apple is doing with their money, and on which side of the fence they lean on with certain political decisions. It’s our job to deliver credible news to those people.

makes perfect sense to post that on here
