Apple Launches Insomnia Film Festival Contest, Registration Ends Nov.13

Apple has launched the Insomnia Film Festival contest. The contest is an open call for anyone willing to enter, to write, cast, shoot, edit and score a three-minute-movie within 24 hours. The details, and requirements for the contest will be released on November 15th at 9:00am EST.

A list of the required film elements can be found here. Although they are all currently blank, Apple will issue the requirements when the contest officially begins. Once the clock starts ticking, you will have to choose from three of the requirements on the list, and begin producing your movie.

On November 15 at 9:00 a.m. EST, the clock starts ticking.
Apple will post the list of required elements for entries in the 2008 Insomnia Film Festival. Then you and your team will have the next 24 hours to make and upload your 3-minute movie. That’s the easy part.

Once your movie’s up, you’ll need to get everyone you know—and then some—to watch and rate it online. If your movie makes the top 25, you can host a showing at the Apple Retail Store. Your adoring fans can download it from the iTunes Store. And it’ll be screened by some big-time industry players: John August, Doug Ellin, Jody Hill, Masi Oka, Jason Bateman, Paul Haggis, Greg Mattola, Barry Sonnenfeld.

Earn the #1 rating from either the public or the pros, and you’ll land one of two grand prizes. Everyone on your team will get a MacBook Pro, Final Cut Studio 2, Logic Studio, Shake, and a year’s worth of One to One personal training to help you use them. Not a bad trade for one night’s sleep. Register your team now.

The top 25 entrants will be able to show a screening of their submission at an Apple Store. From there, two winners will be chosen: “Judge’s Selection” and “Viewer’s Choice.” The winning teams will receive the following grand prize package:

• 5 MacBook Pro notebook computers
• 5 Final Cut Studio 2 box sets
• 5 copies of Shake
• 5 Logic Studio box sets
• 5 One to One personal training cards

Additionally, one submission will be awarded Honorable Mention, which is selected by the celebrity judges as one of the finalists that stood out from the crowd. This winner will receive an hour long video iChat with film maker Barry Sonnenfeld.

Wait… Wait, wait… So you have 24 hours to film the movie once the clock starts? And everyone’s clock starts at the same time? All the entrants?

Yup. In other words: Everyone will be sitting by their computers waiting for the clock to strike 9:00am. Once it does, all registrants will have 24 hours to produce the film. The list of requirements I linked to, is currently all blank. This is to give everyone a fair start. Apple will unveil the specific requirements as the contest begins. Everyone will have the same criteria, the same requirements, and the same amount of time (24 hrs) to complete the film.

Registration doesn’t close till November 13th. Me and my teacher were trying to figure out why it wasn’t working, but haven’t found any reasons. Other people are registering, so it seems with the Recent New Teams/Insomniacs.

Neither can my group! They better fix it fast because thats unfair. If it isn’t fixed they should extend the deadline…
