Has Apple’s ‘Get a Mac’ Campaign Lost Focus? Time to Move On?

Apple has recently unveiled its latest installment in the ever-popular ‘Get a Mac’ ad campaign. The two new commercials titled “V Word” and “Bean Counter,” follow Apple’s traditional direction with this campaign, directly slamming Microsoft and Windows Vista.

Reaction to the two new spots is mixed, as many readers explain that the ads are simply “out of place” and “getting really old.” The new commercials make light of Microsoft’s massive blunder with Vista, as well as point fun at Microsoft’s $300 million ad campaign. But perhaps the campaign has run its course.

Many readers and viewers alike have been expressing frustration with the new Apple ads, saying that the entire campaign has lost focus. Apple has never used a 30 second commercial to showcase new features or enhancements to their products. Instead, they have extremely focused ad campaigns that paint an essence of the company and overall Apple brand.

The iPhone, Mac and iPod+iTunes are Apple’s core advertising prongs. Each category of their business has highly targeted advertisements and commercials supporting what Apple is trying to sell you. In the case of the Macintosh and Apple’s personal computers, directly slamming Microsoft has become a crucial part of the campaign. Bleeping out the word Vista, poking fun at Microsoft’s advertising budget, and highlighting Vista’s flaws are all part of Apple’s master plan in swaying users from Windows to the Mac.

Our nation is currently undergoing one of the most important elections in history, and many are off-put by the negativity in Apple’s ‘Get a Mac’ campaign, correlating the “vibe” with those of negative and slanderous political campaigns. In these times of economic strain and political volatility, is Apple’s negative campaign alternatively hurting the Cupertino tech firm more than it’s swaying users from the World of Windows? Some readers and viewers think so.

stupid article. these ads were the funniest ones since the blues song one. the ads are suppose to encourage people to go out and try this great product and talk to a mac person and make microsoft/windows look stupid. job well done in these two. I’m sure apple is now laughing their asses off over how much they spent on advertising. it really does piss you off that there are companies that will just throw money away to make a problem go away. sound familar?

I’m not agreeing with the notion, more than I’m simply reporting what I’ve been reading and hearing since these ads were first aired.

I myself find them pretty amusing… I got a chuckle.

You have got to be kidding. This is a funny stab at the competition, nothing more. It’s a funny ad. Should all comedians stop writing jokes because we are doomed?

Ease up. These are light hearted fun. The bean counter one made a good point. They are suggesting that MS actually spend money to fix Vista instead of spending $300M to advertise Vista. I don’t view these as slamming MS.

Best ads in a while. They were spot-on. Funny, smart, and a little too true for comfort.

“is Apple’s negative campaign alternatively hurting the Cupertino tech firm more than it’s swaying users from the World of Windows? Some readers and viewers think so.” How many is “some”? I mean, really, is it ten that you talked to? Maybe you saw 23 such comments online somewhere? The fact is as long as two people feel this way you can write “some” but it’s a point without reference or meaning. If this is a blog, give your opinion, yes, but don’t use slippery logic to draw a conclusion that’s not supported in any way. At least you’re not claiming this is journalism in any sense.

this isn’t the only place i’ve heard these concerns, it’s been related to the negative presidential campaign for the last 24 hours.
