Apple sent out invitations to members of the media on Thursday, October 9th with the tagline “the spotlight turns to notebooks,” inviting them to a special event to be held on Tuesday, October 14th, at 10am on Apple’s Campus in Cupertino, California.
Rumors about everything from a tablet to a new manufacturing process have been swirling for some time now, but chances are that the event won’t hold anything out of the ordinary. Aside from new Macbooks/Pro’s and overhauled case designs respectively, wild rumors and speculation of a Macbook touch, or a multi-touch glass trackpad are most likely inaccurate. Below is a list of what we can expect to see from the event, and what most likely won’t be getting mentioned.
• Macbook Pro – new keyboard, overhauled case design, refined
• Macbook – overhauled case design, move to aluminum, possible addition of multi-touch gestures to trackpad, possible larger trackpad, reconfigured ports, general attempt at a more high-end feel
• Macbook Air – briefly mentioned, spec updates, overall performance increase, storage boosts, possible but unlikely case refinements, possible price reduction
• Aggressive price points
• Unified look across entire notebook line
• Standardization of parts for easier production
• LED’s
• Inclusion of NVIDIA chipsets, specifically targeted towards reduced power consumption
• Ramp up of LED inclusion/production
• Tablet notebook, multi-touch netbook
• Blu-Ray integration
• multi-touch glass trackpad
• re-introduction of 12″ G4 powerbook
• unification of entire notebook line
• LED keyboard
• iLife and iWork updates
