Rumor Roundup: Apple’s Upcoming Notebook Media Event

Small Apple LogoApple is holding a Special Media Event on Tuesday October 14th, 2008 to unveil a new line of notebooks. While the community waits in anticipation, we thought it’d be best to cover all of the information we currently know regarding the upcoming notebooks. (Here’s a recap)

MacBlogz

READ → Back in June our sources gave us information about the upcoming Macbook Pro’s “Chicklet” keyboard. As the October 14th event nears, it looks as though our sources were 100% accurate with their information. These are the same source(s) that tipped us on the inevitable Apple TV “HD TV shows” upgrade which we saw, and the inclusion of GPS in the 2nd-generation iPod touch. So, all information MacBlogz has received thus far has been proven accurate. Additional rumblings have led MacBlogz to believe that the inclusion of built to order Solid State Drives (in more than just the Macbook Air) is something we could see on October 14th.

9to5Mac

READ → 9to5 places its best on “The Brick” being a new manufacturing process, where Apple carves notebooks out of one piece of high grade, aircraft quality aluminum. The entire process is still up for debate between analysts. MacBlogz has contacted Andy Hargreaves of Portland-based Pacific Crest Securities who has stated, “I’d be shocked if they started doing any of their own assembly,” adding, “That’s the kind of drastic step that would hurt profits. I’m just not sure what the advantages would be. 9to5 additionally reported that the upcoming notebooks would include a glass trackpad, and make use of bigger size screens. 9to5 has a great track-record.

MacX.cn

READ → Confirming the release of Apple’s upcoming Macbook Pro, MacX.cn has posted a few higher resolution, leaked images of the notebook. Depicting a solid body made out of aluminum, the notebooks are set to be released at Apple’s notebook media event on Tuesday, October 14th.

Apple.pro

Alleged Case photos from a Chinese supply line were leaked (through MacRumors’ forums) and then confirmed (by Apple Insider) and then even more alleged case photos were leaked. Although Apple.pro doesn’t have an established track record, they have supplied a good amount of “leaked” supply line images, which many believe to be real.

MacRumors

READ → Back on September 10th, MacRumors speculated about the possibility that the Macbook Air would be outfitted with a larger 120GB HDD. “The new 120GB iPod Classic shares the same single-platter hard drive form factor that is also used in the MacBook Air. Prior to the availability of the 120GB part, the MacBook Air had been limited to a maximum hard drive size of 80GB. The MacBook Air should now be able to accommodate the higher 120GB hard drive size.”

Apple Insider

READ → Back in April Apple Insider confirmed speculation that Apple’s notebook line would not only be overhauled right around now, but that we would see major design changes. Accurately pinning that Macbooks were slated for mid-October, source proved right for most of the information. Additionally, AI depicted a very specific portrayal of what the upcoming Macbook Pro’s port configuration will be.

TUAW & MacSoda

READ →TUAW and MacSodie-pop both insist that Apple’s upcoming notebooks will use a new NVIDIA chipset, specifically the NVIDIA MCP7A-U. MacSoda recently went out on a limb saying that invitations were going to be sent out Tuesday, which was incorrect. Additionally, TUAW recently reported about a “Webcast kickoff” product launch, which was also incorrect. While MacSoda generally has not been proven accurate with information, TUAW has a consistently reliable track-record. Additionally, days before the event “Mac Soda has heard that iLife ‘09 and iWork ‘09 are going to be announced this Tuesday.” Around this same time last year, during the iMac event, Apple unveiled iWork and iLife updates.
