[Update] Is Apple’s October 14th Media Event A Bust, Long Shot Rumor? NOPE

Back on September 10th, we reported about information regarding a rumored Macbook Media Event which is supposed to take place exactly a week from today on Tuesday, October 14th. With no invitations to be seen, or heard of, is Apple’s rumored “Macbook Media Event” simply just a jumbled mess of speculation?

NOTE: Invitations to this event were sent out by Apple on Thursday, October 9th, 2008.

bush confused Back in early September Daring Fireball’s John Gruber claimed that he had sources telling him about an October 14th Macbook release. “Those of you holding out for a new lineup of MacBooks will have to wait until October 14, according to sources who, as they say, are familiar with Apple’s hardware plans.” Today, a site with fairly no credible sources placed their bets on invitations being sent out for Apple’s upcoming media event. Seeing as how nothing has yet been mentioned, unless Apple releases them later tonight, or later this week (doubtful), is Apple’s event simply a long shot rumor?

TUAW and MacSoda both claim that new Macbooks are indeed coming on October 14th and they’ll be equipped with NVIDIA chipsets. Could their sources be wrong too? If there was an event, wouldn’t we have seen invitations. Historically, Apple generally gives the media some time to make travel arrangements (flights, book hotels, rent cars), before an event. For the last “Let’s Rock” media event, Apple sent out the invitations on the previous Tuesday, September 2nd (which would correlate with today for the rumored Macbook event). So, we might seem invitations later tonight.

Back in July MacDailyNews claimed they had sources which leaked information about Apple’s upcoming notebook, and they said it was a Macbook Touch. We initially digested the rumor with much speculation, even considering the mainstream attention it received.

With October 14th exactly a week away, we will be mid October and Apple has (as usual), stayed completely silent on the matter. The only concrete information we know is that Apple’s financial performance depends quite heavily on the release of their new computers. Having a strong presence in the market place (new products, aggressive price-points) come this holiday shopping season can be guaranteed at this point. But unless we see some invitations later tonight, or later this week, no specific date can yet be pinpointed.

Of course, Apple could always release new notebooks by simply taking the store down for a few hours.

I’ve been surfing the rumor sites and blogosphere all day looking for the long-awaited invitation announcement. Now - nothing? I’m so confused. Everyone has been so sure of October 14th as the update event. No event? Or no updates at all?
