We have been hearing multiple rumors pointing to an overhauled notebook line for some time now. On September 10th, we reported about the possibility of a Special Event being held by Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) on October 14th to release the new notebooks. New information suggest that new Macbooks have already begun shipping to retailers.
New information from Citi analysts explain the following: “Following field checks in Asia, we remain comfortable with our above consensus revenue and EPS estimates for 3CQ08. New products, iPhone geographic expansion and sharp declines in key component prices also bode well for upside in 4CQ08. Finally, valuation is attractive at 13X forward free cash flow…Field checks confirm that shipments of new MacBooks have begun, with a sharp production ramp planned for Sept and an introduction planned for early October. The most distinctive features of the new MacBook appear to be a very thin aluminum casing, an LED-backlit display and an aggressive entry-level price point.”
Overseas supply chains can be blamed for many of Apple’s leaks. The new aluminum notebook rumors are not a surprise however. We’ve reported about a confirmed Macbook Air-like keyboard in the upcoming Macbook Pro, and a new case design from leaked supply chain photos has also been announced.
With a completley overhauled notebook line up next for Apple, some are pointing to another Special Event to be held in October. Steve Jobs and Co., would use the event as a showcase to explain and release the much anticipated notebooks. Additionally, we’ve heard some rumblings about the iMac getting a speedbump before the holidays. Essentially we could be given two Special Apple Media Events within eight weeks.
