To those who said that the iPhone would never aid in determining tax rates, abortion rights, and universal health care: We introduce to you Campaign ‘08, one of few iPhone/iPod applications deemed politically minded.

While maintaining no political agenda, Campaign ‘08 can be used to “impress your friends and confound your enemies with your up-to-the-minute knowledge of which candidate is winning in each of the fifty states.” (iTunes.com) Not only can you track the polls and electoral vote estimates, but this information can be organized by state, candidate, and percentage with historical date built in for trend comparison.
The application is separated into three main categories including news, polls, and candidates. Each time the app is opened, news from the campaign trail is up-to-date. The polls section tracks and displays each candidate’s ranking and overall public perception through a series of different metrics. The Candidates section provides users with information pertaining to each of the candidates involved in the election including biographical data and which stance the candidate takes on certain issues.
TechCrunch notes that user opinions have been extremely split, especially over Obama’s most recently endorsed Ad in which he attacks McCain for his prehistoric views and knowledge of technology. Obama supporters tend to agree, while McCain supporters generally feel that a leader does not need to possess the knowledge of how to perform even the most basic computer operations. The ad can be seen below.
For a mere $0.99 per download, you can stay up-to-date on what really counts in today’s political world. Don’t worry, Koi Pond will always be there for when you start feeling a little too knowledgeable.
