Yahoo has launched oneConnect, a new iPhone application that allows users to manage their mobile and social networking contacts from a single interface.

The application, which is currently being offered for free on iTunes (and the App Store), aggregates status updates from contacts on various social networking sites including Facebook, MySpace, Flickr, Twitter and YouTube. Additionally, oneConnect is capable of merging instant messaging, text messages and e-mail into one, streaming, conversation.
According to Marco Boerries, a Yahoo Vice President, oneConnect, was created using Yahoo’s open-source Blueprint and generates a unique socially connected address book for iPhone users. “Rather than going to six sites, you need (a single) click on Pulse in oneConnect,” Marco explains. “The iPhone has ignited and captured the imagination of what a mobile phone can do.”
While the best version of oneConnect is currently available for Apple’s iPhone, Yahoo has expressed plans to release future versions of the program for other handheld mobile devices. (oneConnect is reportedly also compatible with the iPod touch.)
Here at MacBlogz, we think it is refreshing to see Yahoo get in on the iPhone game. It will be interesting to see what these tech giants can create once they put all of their heads together to offer the best and most comprehensive communication service out there.
