Apple has long been criticized for the quality of the in-ear headphones that come prepackages with their iPods. Today, alongside a plethora of new iPods, Apple has announced a pair of premium in-ear speakers that will retail for $79.
They’ve got dual drivers (woofer + tweeter), a setup you don’t see until about the $200 mark with say, Ultimate Ears’ Super.fi 5 Pro or Shure’s E4c-n set, which used to be over $300. And these are only $79.

The premium headphones are set to rival competing products which are set at a much higher price point (around $200-$300) as compared to the relatively inexpensive $79. The v-moda vibe duo’s are an incredible pair of headphones that deliver outstanding audio clarity, and they sell for $99. With the introduction of these new headphones, Apple is attempting to enter this realm.
