Recurring Leaked Info; 2nd Gen iPod touch to Have GPS

It is believed that Apple will update their iPod product line (particularly the iPod nano and iPod touch), within the next two weeks. Among news that has trickled in before the official release, the inclusion of GPS in the 2nd generation iPod touch has been making the rounds.

We have previously reported about the upcoming iPod touch and the inclusion of GPS. It is a rather natural progression of enhancements within Apple’s product line. Seeing as how GPS does not need a cellular network to run, why shouldn’t the iPod touch benefit as well?

Rumors claiming that Apple will introduce a price cut for the upcoming iPod’s have also recently come in, with Digg founder Kevin rose claiming the following: “iPods to see fairly large price drops to distance itself from the $199 iPhone.”

While the touch may be lowered to $179, or possibly a $159 price point, if Apple lowers it any more than that, it will cause friction with the products below it.

“I just received news that iPod Touch 2nd Gen will have GPS. This comes from an inside source that have contact with employees building iPod Touch 2nd gen and iPod Nano 4th gen cases. A Chinese manufacturer must have a computer scan of the device before they can make a mold. Parts of the new iPods find their way to accessory companies who then pass on the computer scan to Chinese manufacturers and once this happens the word spreads from workers to other companies and to sometimes to me,” ‘Insider’ claims for iDealsChina.com.

MacRumors points out that “iDealsChina was previously responsible for leaked iPhone 3G case moldings that turned out to be accurate.”

I just wish it had stereo bluetooth support [it would need bluetooth for this]…

Wait, so… Why would it need bluetooth for GPS?

Maybe it doesn’t need bluetooth for GPS, but it should have bluetooth either way. It should pretty much have EVERY LITTLE THING the iPhone has, except the whole “phone” thing.

I’m holding out for two new 2nd gen iPod touch’s. One for my brother, and one for my cousin.

They both live overseas.

Both of them would LOVE GPS.

It’s impossible for the ipod touch to have gps and use it effectively. The touch doesn’t have map data saved in it like other gps devices (garmin and the like) do. You would still have to be in a wifi network for the ipod touch to look up the map data from google.
