Could Indonesia be added to the list of South East Asian countries slated to receive the iPhone 3G?
MacBlogz has received a tip from one of our readers that the country’s largest mobile operator, Telkomsel, with a customer base of over 50 million, may indeed be nearing final negotiations to carry the iPhone 3G.
The mobile carrier is primarily state owned, yet a 35% stake is held by SingTel and its associates, who have managed to close iPhone 3G deals in Singapore, India, the Philippines.
According to a close colleague of the operator, “Telkomsel will offer iPhone 3G here. It’s almost confirmed.” He then went on to say, “Telkomsel will offer the iPhone to its postpaid customers. Now they are working on how to determine the plan that will be offered to the customers.”
Indonesia’s cell market currently relies on pre-paid customers, so any iPhone 3G plan would need to lend itself to this mechanism.
