“Apple may launch its iPhone App Store Thursday, according to three people who have been briefed on the matter.”
“The online store will open at noon, Eastern Time, Thursday, to coincide with when the iPhone goes on sale in New Zealand, according to one source.”
“The App Store is the centerpiece of Apple’s (nasdaq: AAPL – news – people ) effort to turn its iPhone media player-smart phone hybrid into an all-purpose computing platform.”
“Historically secretive Apple did not return calls about the Apps store. Details about the size, scope or content of the store are consequently scarce. That veil of secrecy has frustrated many independent developers who are accustomed to sharing details about their work on their own time schedule.”
Additional Thoughts: It would certainly make sense to have an App Store launch that would coincide with the release of the first round of iPhones, which happens to take place in New Zealand due to the country’s geo-specific location. If so, it will give all of us here in the opposite hemisphere a preview of what will only further our anticipation.
