Apple set to release iSight HD? Avoiding new Cinema Displays at all cost?

isight HD

angry displayPossible references to an unreleased High Definition iSight in Apple’s QuickTime system files may have been found by a MacRumors reader. They provide a disclaimer however; “We’re not sure how old this reference is, but a quick Google search shows no previous discussion of it. Still, it remains possible that this could be an old reference to a project that is no longer planned.”

Apple stopped selling the iSight in December of 2006. Since Apple has chosen to avoid integrating iSight cameras into its current line of Cinema Displays, many professionals have been buying iSights from eBay.

This iSight HD rumor should be taken with a grain of salt. It has been 438 days since Apple last updated their Cinema Displays. At this point, it would only make sense for Apple to include an integrated iSight into a refreshed lineup of Cinema Displays.

I really hope Apple updates the Cinema Displays soon i’m tired of waiting, I want a 30-inch but been putting it off but know that I have a Mac Pro and using a 17-inch temporary until Apple updates them when ever that may be?

Ok, I think you’re partially right. I think you’re missing the integration of touchscreen integration into those displays. Imagine a light, wireless, touchscreen 17″ display that embeds some of the functionality of the ipod touch, has a camera on the front and the back, so you can show what you’re looking at, as well as what you look like. It doesn’t have a CPU or storage or much else on it so the main battery drain is the leds for the display, so it lasts for 5-8 hours and uses “standard” ibook batteries. Add to this a pressure sensitive pen and you have a cintiq/wacom killer (they’ve been overpriced for so long it’s a wonder no one has come along and toppled them). So, now you have a system in the home or office, where, if you have your computer on the wireless (probably will require 802.11N) you’ll be able to get XGA or SXGA (maybe WXGA) displays in a given area.
On the other hand, they might just be making monitors with the camera embedded into the display http://www.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=dn9059
