Other blogs need to stop saying Steve Jobs has cancer. This is highly offensive and disrespectful. [updates]

Other blogs such as Silicon Alley Insider have made ridiculous assumptions about Steve Jobs’ physical appearance at this past Monday’s WWDC. Unless you have personally dealt with, and beat cancer you should have NO JUDGEMENTS on whether or not someone else has it based on how “skinny” they look on stage at a conference.

We are completely all about free speech and the right to voice your opinion openly on the inter-webs.
But, this….. IS ABSOLUTELY IMMORAL.

Silicon Alley Insider needs to re-evaluate the content on its site, as well as what its writing about if it wants to remain a trusted source of news and information online. How do you go from writing the insightful SAI25, to this? (Don’t say diversifying the content either… you’re targeting the EXACT SAME CROWD!)

Here at MacBlogz, we are purely disgusted with headlines about Steve Jobs having Cancer again. The mere thought that somebody would invoke rumors about a life-threatening disease when a man is at the pinnacle of his revolutionary and earth-shattering career is absolutely pathetic. It remains clear that those envious of what Jobs is capable of doing, hold no respect for what the man has been through, both personally and as Apple’s CEO.

I think an update or apology is in order to Steve Jobs by a few other blogs. SAI especially.

Please remember that Steve has been known to be a practicing vegan and have altered his diet dramatically after he initially beat cancer.

[updates] - I wanted to share a fellow blogger’s similar opinion. He writes for a small little blog know as Gizmodo. In his post “On Assholes Tracking Steve Job’s Health” Brian Lam addresses some issues that we both similarly share.

As an editor for MacBlogz, I definitely feel it necessary to report about issues such as this. However, the notion of attacking the story as a “tabloid/gossip” themed rumor is simply bad and tacky journalism. Steve Jobs cannot be compared to modern celebrities who are in and out of the tabloids. Other journalists and fellow editors need to stop and think before they write and allow these “attention-seeking-headlines” on their sites… “Who has devoted his life to revolutionizing technology so that you can blog so comfortably from your couch?” What’s more important, your daily page views? Or showing some respect for a man like Steve Jobs.

Pfft no one made rumours of Steve having cancer. They simply noted and commented on his appearance, and put the question out there if its due to cancer.

Nothing wrong with that, starting a rumour saying Steve DOES have cancer is COMPLETELY different. Learn to read and interpret english if you wish to remain a reliable and trusted source.

@Olivier: A lot of other blogs stated that Steve “might be ill” in their headlines. But, Silicon Alley Insider speculated specifically about Steve having cancer. Completely out of line.

I doubt they changed their article, and I see nothing wrong with the linked article says…

‘Does Apple’s Steve Jobs Have Cancer Again?’
‘however, we weren’t the only ones who wondered whether Steve Jobs is sick again’
‘it also seems possible that the weight loss could be an indication that Steve’s cancer has reappeared.’

Whats different with this article, they dont report anything untrue.

It’s honestly just a matter of respect. Steve Jobs is such a wonderfully loved, respected and truly magnificent man. I personally have had family members deal with life-threatening cancer. Things like this are an energy game with the universe too, it’s not just scientific facts. (I guarantee Steve believes this too)

Anyways, when people start talking, believing or perpetuating something insane like Steve Jobs having cancer again… It might actually happen.

I think it’s in everyone’s best interested to NOT report things like this.

SAI is supposed to be a reputable blog with top-stories… The article they wrote about Steve’s possible cancer is pure journalistic garbage. It belongs on TMZ.com or the Hollywood E Channel, BUT NOT IN SILICON VALLEY.

They need to remove that headline and apologize to Steve and Apple as a whole.

@Olivier: Absolutely hilarious!!! I don’t think doctors will say anything about the universe or anything like that. Steve might believe it, but he’s moderately a tree-hugger anyways.

Gizmodo (among many others) reported about the same story… But notice the difference in the headlines.

The reason why people write this stuff is that they do not want to see Apple be so successful.

I know that Jobs does not come up with everything put out by Apple, but
Steve Jobs is the face of Apple. With that being said, people figure if Jobs is no longer around, Apple will crumble, some people would like to see that.

I have heard that there is a successor to Jobs, someone who Apple feels will do just as good of a job as Steve Jobs has done, but why has Apple not brought this person out to do the important events along with Steve Jobs? Apple has made it out at time that Apple Inc. is Steve Jobs / Steve Jobs is Apple Inc. Geez…. the guy is getting older, cant he retire someday?

The fact is….. like all of us, we are not going to be around for ever, so why not introduce “that person” to the public, another face that the public could associate with Apple.

Here is something to keep in mind, there will be a time when Steve Jobs is no longer around, what will happen to Apple Inc? Will the same thing happen like when Steve Jobs was let go the first time and the company tanked? Are people/investors so convinced that it is Jobs and Jobs only who make and run Apple Inc?

I’ve personally heard rumors that Scott Forstall, Apple’s Senior Vice President of iPhone Software might be a serious contender as Jobs’ successor. If you haven’t seen him speak, check out the SDK release event, or this past Monday’s WWDC video. He definitely has “that magic” about him.

Here’s a link to Scott Forstall’s page on Apple’s website.

This is coming from someone that has had a family member with cancer and has passed. They looked like Steve in the final stages.

Let’s be brutally honest. Steve Jobs does not look healthy. In fact, he looks like he’s battling cancer. We should all pray that Apple is telling the truth and that Steve is recovering from a “common bug.”

However, don’t be suprised if he’s battling cancer once again.

My apologies.
