Hey Apple…Where the f*ck are the new Cinema Displays and Macbook Pro Cases? [updated]

Sad_products

I know that iPhone 3G is a big deal. Apple is trying to penetrate the global markets and inch closer towards Steve Jobs’ ultimate goal of Global Domination. I am completely on board with Apple’s plans most of the time, but the Cinema Displays and Macbook Pro cases have been seriously ignored, borderline neglected like a red-headed step-child. Understandably, Apple is focusing far more on the everyday-user (as apposed to professionals) with new iMac designs, the release of the Macbook Air and Macbook updates, iPhone and iPod line overhauls… Amongst all of this, all professionals have gotten is a measly Penryn update to the Macbook Pro (which was slower in some benchmarks), and a standardized Octo-core Mac Pro option (I’ll mention the Xserve updates so that some of you don’t explode).

What’s going on here Apple? There are professionals who use your stuff too ya know? Professionals also love shiny new toys, and spending their money on unnecessary gadgets. Can we get a little love? The button-latch on the Macbook Pro as apposed to the magnetic latch on the Macbook is utterly insane. It’s not reliable, it’s annoying to use and you have to keep your finger nails at a certain length to open your notebook (which then get in the way while you type). The keyboard on the Macbook Pro is completely out of date and also awful to use. It accumulates black smudges and allows dust to get into the machine. If you type on it for a week without cleaning, it turns black. It’s gotten to the point of when I type on my buddy’s Macbook, I am honestly envious. Yeah, the back-lighting on the Macbook Pro is nice, but the Air has that, and the Air has the Macbook’s keyboard. I understand that Apple needs to break up its notebook line feature-by-feature (give some what others don’t have). But this is the MAC-BOOK-PRO-FESSIONAL ! It should have all of these features! And more! How does this keyboard fall into Apple’s distinct price-point variations? Come on. I’ve heard enough of this “You can’t change what’s perfect” non-sense. A few minor feature upgrades and some inspirational fusion with the Macbook Air’s case and then we’ll be on the right track.

Oh yeah…. One More Thing. (pun) The iMac has a camera. The Macbook has a camera. The Macbook Pro has a camera. The Macbook Air has a camera. The iPhone has a camera. Why don’t the Cinema Displays have a camera? It’s been 434 days since any mention of the Cinema Displays has been made. I think it’s beyond the point of neglect. Does anybody know the number for tech social services?

[updates] For the sake of the community, I’ll address some of the commenters below. Updates to these two products specifically are what most professionals have been waiting for. We are not the only ones who want these updates to happen. You can check out Jason D. O’Grady & David Morgenstern’s blog on ZDNET or check out Gizmodo’s many rants about these two products, how late and completely overdue for refreshes they are. Without going into further detail about what these products need, I would NOT be surprised to see both the Macbook Pro case and Apple’s Cinema Display totally overhauled very soon. Rumors about both have been swirling for a long, long time.

So you call yourself a professional and whine about wanting a camera on your display? Your MBP obviously is used, dirty, worn-and-torn and it needs to be replaced… entirely your own fault, but you blame Apple? You want to buy a new MBP right now but Apple does not have a new model right now so they suck for that? Sounds like a egocentric childish tantrum to me.

YOU DO KNOW THAT EVERYONE HAS BEEN WAITING FOR THESE UPDATES RIGHT ?!?!?! EVERYONE HAS BEEN BITCHING ABOUT THEM ! EVERYONE IS WAITING. Gizmodo wrote a post called “Macbook Pro Woes” after this year’s MacWorld and Macbook Air announcement.

Here’s the link: http://gizmodo.com/345236/macbook-pro-woes-what-should-i-do-now

A case redesign on the Macbook Pro is so disgustingly overdue.

I personally HATE having to ONLY use my laptop to video chat. It’s a sick joke that Apple is playing on me. I for one, could definitely use an iSight in my Displays.

I find a lot of great points in what the author is saying. Regardless of your like dislike for their use of censored profanity in the headline, the updates mentioned are long overdue. And I hardly believe the author is implying that Apple sucks. (Seeing as how MBlogz has dedicated much of their life to Apple.) As consumers, we would just hate to see Apple shift all of their innovative focus to iPods and iPhones.

Ummmmmmm…… YOU do know that WWDC stands for World Wide Developers Conference? And, that as such SOFTWARE is the topic at hand? And that the announcement of HARDWARE is rare and usually only done because of the SOFTWARE implications? I’m going to keep you bookmarked just a little bit longer - give you a chance to be a little more professional. One more gaff like this and I drop you - there are too many professional blogs out there to be messing with someone who writes the kind of headline you did!

Sooooo, you guys are saying that Apple ignoring the Cinema Display for over a year is ok? You guys are saying that Apple ignoring the MBP for this long is ok? I think he’s right.

Apple has always used WWDC to talk about new hardware… Yes, ok, software is #1. But, they released the new iPhone 3G at this year’s WWDC. THAT”S A PIECE OF HARDWARE.

I don’t think he’s the only one who wants these two products to be updated.

I’m pretty sure they’re talking about the headline here and not the actual content. I agree with the author about how LATE these product refreshes are. But, he might’ve been a little too peeved while writing this headline.

I’ve been waiting for a new Macbook Pro case for longer than I can remember. This has definitely gotten out of hand.

Am I the only one the actually likes the current MBP casing? It’s rugged, a real classic and I like the keyboard. Why fix it if it ain’t broken? I like the Cinema Display too. Each time I get visitors to my office I receive compliments. A small graphic update won’t hurt, but that design…… Just keep it!

@ Peter. Yup.

You might be one of the only people who don’t want the design to change. We’re not saying it’s not great, it’s just becoming archaic.

I want a 30-Inch Apple Cinema Display but putting it off until Apple updates them, i’m using a 17-inch with my newly purchase Mac Pro but only using the 17-inch temporary until Apple decides to release a new display. Is there any way that anyone here at MacBlogz can start a partition for a New Cinema Display and send it to Apple, i’ll bet so many people will sign in a heart beat, but if Apple doesn’t hurry soon I might be force to buy a Dell 3008WFP 30-Inch instead I don’t want to but how long we suppose to wait? Maybe the reason for the delay on the displays is that Apple is developing in Snow Leopard a Resolution Independence Support that will open the door for Apple’s Ultra-high resolution displays that was previously rumored, So I think when Snow Leopard comes out in 2009 maybe we will see Apple may update the Cinema Displays then but I hope not because I don’t want to wait that long.

@Darrel Jackson: I really hope we don’t have to wait until 2009 to see new displays !!! That would be insane. The petition idea is cool. Maybe MacBlogz will do it !
