Apple.com #10 website by brand.

Nielson Online, a service of the Nielson Company, reported data for the web’s top sites by both parent company and brand for the month of May. Coming in at #10 in the top brand category was Apple.com with a reported 50,531,000 “unique visitors” who spend an average of about one hour and six minutes browsing the site per session. While these numbers seem to be absolutely staggering, #1 on the list was, surprise, surprise, Google with around 121,991,000 “unique visitors” for the month. Following close behind was Yahoo!, Microsoft and MSN/Windows Live.

While I would certainly expect Apple.com to be a heavily trafficked site, I am very impressed that it made this list. The site is extremely comprehensive and presents a vast amount of user interactivity through video, news, forums, reviews, products…etc, being primarily “Apple-centric” would still make it rather niche in the eyes of the average internet user. Whereas, sites like Google, Yahoo! and AOL, users can access information, videos, news etc.. from a broad range of categories. Additionally, sites such as, YouTube, Wikipedia and eBay, as we all know, are open to an extremely wide spectrum of user interests. So I must say that I am pleasantly surprised to see Apple make this list.
