Exhaustive ORIGINAL iPhone patent application revealed. Steven P. Jobs takes most credit.

Today the United States Patent and Trademark Office posted the detailed Apple patents application for the first generation iPhone, (original patent filed filed September 5th, 2007) describing it as a “Touch Screen Device, Method, and Graphical User Interface for Determining Commands by Applying Heuristics.” With Apple’s Steve Jobs listed first in the line of inventors, the extensive 371-page documents outlines every detail and aspect of the current Apple iPhone’s graphical user interface, and highlights an assortment of features and applications that have yet to appear on any present iPhone model or software. Could this be a sign of things to come???

Included in the application are GPS functionality, and detailed applications for video conferencing, instant messaging, blogging, and a digital video camera application. Whether or not these features will become available in an online update or be included in the next generation 3G iPhone is still unclear. If nothing else, these records show strong intent on Apple’s side and ongoing research into how they can better the iPhones to come.
