Just for Clarification… This video and Apple’s flopped PIPPIN gaming console does NOT mean they have given gaming the shot it deserves. Apple knows this and will hopefully make up for this devastating flop of a device.
The Pippin sold 42,000 units.
It simply couldn’t compete against machines like the Nintendo 64, Sega and the original PlayStation.
Apple really needs to break out of its shell and do something that will blow the gaming world away. I’m not saying Apple needs to release a console that would directly compete with Microsoft’s Xbox, but a slight acknowledgement to the gaming community would sure put Apple in the proper light.
In the meantime, let’s get nostalgic about the video above, and hope that in our lifetime, we can see how Steve decides to make up for it.

Why SHOULD Apple give acknowledgement to the gaming community? What makes the gaming community such a big deal that Apple needs to blow the gaming world away?

Jim, do you have any idea what’s been happening with Grand Theft Auto IV ? I think it made something like 500 million it’s first weekend out. i also think it’s projected to make over a billion dollars. THAT’S INSANE FOR THE GAMING COMMUNITY !!! INSANE !!!!

They’ve already shipped a gaming console… It’s called Apple TV. Just buy the Bluetooth controller and download games from the ATV’s iTunes Store. Later this year, of course.

If they were to make a gaming console, it would be a small silver box running OS X that connects to the internet & your TV and has Bluetooth… And they want EVERYTHING to be downloaded via iTunes (meaning no disc drives). Does this box sound familiar? Apple TV.

There are already 3rd party apps for the iPhone that do some amazing things when it comes to controlling applications. It’s really, really cool. I’m not expecting too much new hardware from Apple in the near future. They are focused on software updates that provide new functionality to existing hardware, and adding content at the moment.

There’s a difference between releasing a console and developing a game.
Again, why does Apple need to acknowledge the gaming community as what this blog is asserting?
FYI, the Pippin wasn’t released during Jobs’ time so he has nothing to “make up for”.
I’m starting to see a slant here.
