RIM (Research in Motion) attempts to make waves with the new BlackBerry Bold 9000, a touch screen device.
“I was absolutely blown away. I can pretty much say I’ve never seen a better-looking display on a smartphone. Colors pop off the screen, and it’s really amazing how sharp and crisp everything looks on the display.” CNet reports.
The Blackberry Bold boasts a 480×320 pixel resolution and a 65,000-color display. There’s plenty of wireless options on the quad-band (GSM 850/900/1800/1900) BlackBerry Bold, as well as the HSDPA/UMTS (850/1900/2100) support. The BlackBerry Bold has a 624MHz Intel PXA270 processor. There’s also some snazzy stuff with the web browser giving you options to view web pages in mobile or full HTML versions.
Even though CNet seems to love the device, and RIM is patting itself on the back, CNBC’s Pete Najarian seems to think that the new BlackBerry device won’t hold a candle-stick to the iPhone. “The Touch BlackBerry won’t touch or hurt the Apple iPhone, the iPhone is simply a different device.” Pete said moments ago.
We agree with Pete on this one. The iPhone is simply too powerful and far too advanced to be compared to the BlackBerry. At this point, the only thing separating the two devices is Apple’s lack of enterprise penetration (which will be addressed this June).
Do you guys think we’ve seen anything that can compete with Apple’s iPhone, or is this BlackBerry Bold just another wannabe ?

In my opinion the BlackBerry Bold sounds like they are just evolving in their own direction and have no desire, or need, to be an iPhone wannabe. As we all know, it takes more effort and dollars to gain new customers (Apple???) and takes far less resources to retain existing customers. Right now, all BlackBerry has to do is continue to appeal to the corporate world by offering incentives and keeping up with the growing needs of their clients. Because, let’s be honest, it is going to take a lot for Apple to win over the largest, not-so-hip, righter-winged firms. What exec is going to sign off on buying his entire financial team quote-un-quote “media devices”.
I believe Apple has a long road ahead of them in order to break into that shielded market.

Sadly…(for Apple), you are right. We are a long ways away form seeing your everyday exec crank out 90 emails on an iPhone.

well thats becasue most companys roll with the microsoft outlook, and once apple has that avaible for the iPhone, watch it surge even more!

I suppose maybe if Apply offered some sort of “corporate training” program for companies choosing to overhaul their devices….But I still think Blackberry would have to screw up in order to loose their market share in that arena.

The Bold would be better named as, Blackberry Pi.
