Vodafone Announces International iPhone Release

Vodafone has recently issued a press report stating that it would sell the iPhone to consumers in Australia and New Zealand, as well as the Czech Republic, Greece, Egypt, Italy, India, Portugal, Turkey, and South Africa.  A Vodafone Australia spokesperson has confirmed that the mobile carrier will release the iPhone in 2008, yet was not able to comment on the model, price or release date, or even Vodafone’s exclusivity as carrier.

CEO of Vodafone Australia, Russell Hewitt, released a statement shortly following the announcement, claiming “Vodafone Australia is enormously pleased to be included in the agreement to sell the iPhone to our customers later this year.”

According to other legal experts, it is possible that other carriers could release the handset in Australia.  Last week, an industry source reported to CNET.com.au, that mobile carrier Optus has similar plans for the iPhone release.
